April 6 – Lincoln meets with Gen Hooker, commander of the Army of the Potomac.
April 7 – Union iron-clad are repulsed at Fort Sumter showing the strength of the rebel naval defenses.
April 10 – Union General Gordon Granger’s forces skirmish with Confederate General Earl Van Dorn near Franklin, TN.
