Confederate monuments in the U.S.

I’m compiling a list of all Confederate monuments throughout the United States that are located in the center of the towns or a nearby park, but NOT in cemeteries.

If you know of a Confederate monument not on this list, please leave a comment. Thanks

  3. Courthouse square in Manning South Carolina has a Confederate soldier .

The Statehouse square in Columbia South Carolina has a Confederate soldier monument also .

  4. I have a few corrections for Kentucky.
Midway – there is no Confederate monument, only a Mexican War monument down on the railroad tracks.
Crab Orchard – the monument there us in the cemetery, not in town.
Danville – the monument there is to a specific person and is on Center College’s campus, not on the town square.
Frankfort – no monument downtown, only in the cemetery, although there is a historical marker by the state capitol building telling about some executions.
Georgetown – the only monument on the town square is WWI. The Confederate monument is in the cemetery and is a memorial to those murdered by Gen. Burbridge.
Harrodsburg – again, the monument is in the cemetery, not downtown.
Lexington – the monuments at the old courthouse are to John Hunt Morgan and John C. Breckinridge, not to Confederates as a group.
Nicholasville – it doesn’t appear on the list, but does have a Confederate monument on the courthouse lawn.
Paris – the monument is in the cemetery, none downtown.
Perryville – ironically, there are no monuments in town, they are all on the battlefield park two miles north of town.
Versailles – once again, the monument is in the cemetery.

  5. There is a United Daughters of the Confederacy monument in Forest Park, St. Louis, Missouri, near downtown.

  6. There are tons in South Carolina. I know in my home town,Abbeville, SC. which is the cradel and death bed of the confederacy and how on earth would one not know of the one on the capital grounds in Columbia, SC?

  7. There’s a monument in the center of Edgefield, SC, erected by the efforts of Lucy Holcombe Pickens and the village ladies.

  8. There is a beautiful confederate monument on the court house square in Perry, GA. and another located in the middle of the intersection of U.S. Hwy 431 and Broad Street in Eufaula, AL. We live in Perry but have a lake home in Eufaula so I’m certain of both. I’m currently doing an article about the 150th anniversary of the civil war for our local newspaper and wondered just how many such monuments there were across the US. What is your current number and how many do you show in Georgia? Which southern state has the most?

    1. Bev, we are planning the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the dedication of our statue. Did you get any answers as to how many are across the U.S. Which state has the most?? etc. Would appreciate any info you can share.
Thanks — from New Castle, Virginia
